The Rules

browse and use this information

  • No star name can be identical.
  • You can only use a maximum of 25 symbols including spaces.
  • The name is case insensitive. BOB is the same as Bob and bob etc.
  • Name can not start or end with a space.
  • Only alphanumerical symbols can be used.
  • Once named a star can't be changed.
* DISCLAIMER : You are not purchasing the star itself. Neither are you registering the star in an official star register. But you are creating an NFT with a reference to a star and a name inside the blockchain.

Can you really name a Star?

Names of astronomical objects are named and agreed upon by the IAU (International Astronomical Union).

The IAU hasn’t taken on any new names for stars, and probably won’t ever. The bottom line is that numbers are much more useful for astronomers searching and studying stars.

But what about the companies that will offer to let you name a star? Each of these companies maintains their own private database containing stars from the catalog and associated star names. They’ll provide you with a nice certificate and instructions for finding it in the sky, but these names are not recognized by the international astronomical community.

This is where DeStars.org comes in. As there is no official way of registering a star, we thought we believe the solution is registering in Decentralized Storage IPFS with a NFT. Giving the power back to the people who own them. This will keep your registration unique, rare and eternal.
